Hello Golfers,
During the last weekend （September 8, 9 and 10, 2007）I participated Bally Haly Men's Club Championship (www.ballyhaly.com) and played well beyond my normal level. I won the 3rd in gross and 1st low net in B division (handicap 10-15); see below on the score report. There were about 60 players in the B division started on Saturday and 30 of them made the cut and went to the final on Monday.
There was a rain storm on Saturday for my group starting from the 11th hole till the 17th. Wind gusted about 80-90 km/hr and when it was in the face, people used drivers to tee off a 175 yard par 3 of the 13th hole. Not many people did even drive long enough to reach the green. On the 14th hole when both the rain and the wind were the worst, I took a 170-yard approaching shot to the green with a 5-iron but the cross wind took the ball to the edge of the woods wiht a horrible lie and it took me two strokes to get it out and finished the hole with a quadpole, 4 over par. At the 16th hole when the wind is in gust and rain was the heaviest, a group of three front of us took 14 over par on that hole, averaged 4.67 over par per player.
We all completely soaked soon after the rain started. The A division (handicap <10) was lucky as they have completed their round before the rain. The C division (handicap >16) was a sort of lucky too as they played only about 9 holes and when the rain started, their first round was completed with only 9 holes.
On Monday, it was one of the best days for golf of this year, though the wind guest about 40-50km/hr. I shot 41 in the front 9, 6 bogies with 3 pars, free of double boggy. Starting at the 15th, the media truck with the leader board started to follow our group as two of us had the lowest scores at that time. First time I saw my name in the leader board, a sort of funny feeling. I lost concentration with a short bunker shot on the green; strong wind in the face and steep downslope green surface let the little back-spinned ball rolled out of the green ended up a only double boggy in the round.
This was my first time I made the cut in all the tournaments of Bally Haly too and also the first time I used only one golf ball for all three tournament rounds.
